Floyd Amateur Radio Society (FARS)
The Floyd Amateur Radio Society (FARS) meets monthly in Floyd, Virginia. This group is also the local ARES group (Amateur Radio Emergency Service for Floyd County). The group has a weekly radio schedule on Tuesday nights at 9:00pm local time on the 146.745 mhz repeater. Our group is small but active with many projects that deal with emergency communications. Some of the members also participate in the Foundation for Amateur International Radio Service hf net on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday at 11:30z (7:30am edst) 12:00z when on standard time. 14, 3185 mhz.. N4USA the FAIRS club station is net control. Projects in process are helping obtain a conditional use permit from the town of Floyd, Virginia to put up a tower. The tower will be in the downtown area and support an hf bean and other antenna. This will result in a club station N4USA for local amateur operators to use for emergencies, training, field day operation and general use. All amateur radio operatorsand interested persons are welcome to join with the FARS group-Contact Tom W4VZH or any FARS member for information. The Foundation for Amateur Internatioinal Radio Service (FAIRS) is also located in the Floyd Professioinal Center and works closely with the FARS. Barack.
